E30 Secondary Differential Mount Fitment Issue Explained
This article is for those of you who have installed our Secondary Differential Mount and have questions about the ~10mm gap between the rear mounting plate and the diff bushing as pictured below.
The design for our E30 Secondary Differential Mount nearly mirrors the position and offset of the OEM bushing in relation to the differential cover, but you have to look at the OEM differential mounting provisions on the chassis and compare the two to understand the solution. Pictured below is an OEM bushing mount and note the angle of the mounting plate in relation to the frame rail above it. You can see it sits at an angle compared to the flat face of the OEM mounted differential bushing, and when unbolted it will deflect a few millimeters away from the bushing. Garagistics mounting plate will flex in a similar manner as the OEM plate when torqued down and has shown no signs of fatigue or potential failure during testing. We can confidently say you can grab your 1/2" impact and let her eat until everything sits flush against the bushing's steel inner race and send it with zero issues.
