Does it work?
When swapping transmissions to another BMW transmission (ex. Getrag 260 to ZF310), the shifter is completely interchangeable and will work on both setups HOWEVER the selector rod or DSSR may have to change.
When swapping to a completely different brand transmission, you may need to change to the shifter appropriate for that platform. (ex. CD009 style shifter for a CD009 transmission)
Why or why not?
BMW shifter arms all use the same mounting method on a shifter carrier and our supreme shifter is built to the same spec to fit these carriers. The carriers, however, can differ from transmission to transmission so shifter placement might not be centered in the transmission tunnel hole. Using the correct shifter carrier for your swap will remedy this.
Our chassis mount shifter deletes the shifter carrier all together and will work with BMW transmissions as long as the appropriate length DSSR or selector rod is used. We recommend this option if you are unsure what shifter carrier is required for your swap.
Selector rod or DSSR might need to be changed when switching transmissions due to the possible change in distance from the transmission's selector joint to the shifter. Incorrect length in selector rod or shifter will cause the shifter arm to be tilted forwards or backwards.
We offer DSSR's in varying sizes for different motor configurations and we are also able to make custom sizes if given measurements from selector rod to shifter.
