Garagistic Bushing Durometer
We offer a lot of bushing here at Garagistic and I mean A LOT of bushings. Do you need Front Control Arm Bushings, Differential Bushings, or Shifter Rebuild Bushing kits? And that's not even all of the bushings we have to offer. Once you find the ones you need for your chassis you have to pick a durometer. A Duo-who-o-meter? Durometer. It's a simple idea so we'll tell you what you need to know. This article will take you through the basics of our Garagistic Bushing Durometers
What is Bushing Durometer?
Simply put durometer is a measurement to determine how hard a material is. Bushing durometer is actually a measurement of material hardness and ultimately determines how a car reacts. A stiff poly bushing will not move as much as a soft rubber one. You should keep this in mind when building a car for performance purposes.
Noise, Vibration, and Harshness
The stiffer the bushing, the more Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) it creates. NVH varies, based not only on durometer but bushing size as well. Its important to make sure that all of your bushing are the same durometer to balance out NVH.
Handling
The higher the durometer the higher the resistance to movement. Under load, suspension components flex. The higher the durometer the higher the resistance of suspension flex resulting in a more predictable vehicle.
What's is Right For You
Rubber
Rubber bushings are designed for comfort and longevity. Readily available at most parts stores and dealerships. Rubber bushings produce the least NVH and provide the most comfort due to their softness but also allow for the most movement.
80A
80A durometer bushings are perfect for Street applications. Bushings at this durometer are a HUGE step above rubber bushings that allow for performance with a slight comprise for comfort. Rest assured your vehicle with 80A bushings will be sharper and more responsive. This will be the durometer that will put the noise in your car a little over factory.
95A
95A durometer bushings are recommended for Track and motor swap applications. The stiffness of 95A gives a sharper feel and more responsiveness with less comprise for comfort. For those who really like to push their car to the limits, you can't go wrong with 95A. This will be the durometer that will put some more noise in your car.
Delrin and Aluminum
Delrin and Aluminum bushings are only recommended for track use. Because these bushings are 1000% solid they transfer tons of NVH, throwing comfort out of the window. But what you do get is a bushing that has virtually no movement. This will allow for precise, accurate, and predictable car control through every turn. These will put a TON of noise in your car.
Thats everything you need you need to know about bushing durometer. Now that your an expert, you can stop by the Garagistic Online Store and get the bushings that meet your needs!
