- Difficulty 3/10
1. Jack your E30 up on a level surface and support it on jack stands so you're able to access the underside of the engine bay. Remove any underbody plastics if necessary.
2. Remove the intake from elbow to airbox to give yourself more room to work by removing the two 10mm nuts holding the airbox to the bracket and the hose clamp on the throttle body.
3. Use a fluid removal pump or turkey baster to remove as much fluid from the power steering reservoir as possible the limit fluid loss and spills.
4. Move to the underside and disconnect the 19mm and 21mm banjo bolts securing the fluid lines to the power steering pump and let them drain into a fluid catch pan.
5. Remove the 19mm and 21mm banjo bolts securing the fluid lines to the steering rack and let drain as well. You should now be able to remove the line from the pump to the rack and set it aside.
6. Move to the top side and remove the power steering reservoir. The bracket holding the reservoir is secured to the driver's side strut tower with a single 10mm bolt. The reservoir should lift out of the engine bay and can be set aside.
7. Remove the accessory belt by loosening the tensioner bolt on the power steering pump bracket.
8. Remove the 13mm bolts fastening the power steering pump to the engine bracket and set the pump aside. The remainder of the 13mm bolts securing the bracket to the engine can be removed to completely delete the bracket.
9. This should be all of the power steering components removed from the engine bay and the fluid ports in the power steering rack need to be plugged with the original 19mm and 21mm banjo bolts, the supplied replacement crush washers, and the Garagistic Power Steering Delete Block. Both banjo bolts need to be torqued to 25ft lbs.
**IMPORTANT** THE STEERING RACK DOES NOT NEED TO BE FULL OF FLUID BEFORE INSTALLATION. ONLY ENOUGH FLUID TO LUBRICATE THE MOVING PARTS IS NEEDED. THE BEST WAY TO ENSURE PROPER OPERATION IS TO LEAVE THE RACK WITH A BIT OF FLUID, INSTALL THE DELETE BLOCK, OPEN THE BLEEDER SCREW AND TURN THE RACK FROM FULL LOCK TO FULL LOCK LEFT AND RIGHT A COUPLE OF TIMES. THIS WILL ALLOW ANY EXCESS FLUID TO BLEED OUT. ONCE ALL EXCESS HAS BEEN REMOVED CLOSE THE BLEEDER AND YOU ARE READY TO GO! WE DO RECOMMEND USING SOME LOCTITE OR SIMILAR THREAD LOCKER WHEN REINSTALLING THE SET SCREW TO PREVENT LEAKING.
