How to install the Garagistic Recaro Seat Brackets in your E30
Disclaimer: This ONLY works for Recaro bottom mount reclining seats in E30's. Read the entire guide before attempting to remove anything. There is a left hand and right-hand seat bracket.
Step 1:
First, you'll need to remove the seat that you plan on installing your Recaro seat adapters on. To do this you'll need to slide your seat all the way back and unbolt the two M10 nuts that hold the seat to the floor of the vehicle. Next, slide your seat all the way forward and unbolt the two M10 bolts that hold the seat to the floor. Once the seat has been unbolted rotate it back to unplug any airbag connectors that may be located on the seat bottom.
Step 2:
Remove the seat from the vehicle and place somewhere clean preferably on a towel or plastic sheet. You will need to place the seat upside down to access the factory sliders and rails. Next, you will need to unbolt the seat brackets and sliders that are attached to the factory seat. To do this you will need to unscrew the four M8 mounting bolts that secure the sliders to the seat. Once you have removed the factory sliders you can prepare the Recaro adapter brackets for install.
Step 3:
Place your factory sliders on the floor beside your seat. You'll next need to orient your Recaro seat adapters correctly. There will be a left and right bracket. See the picture below for orientation. The two-hole side of the brackets are for the factory sliders and the 4 hole side is used to adapt the Recaro seat to the bracket.
Step 4:
After you've determined the correct orientation for your sliders you can begin installing them. The First thing that needs to be done is the removal of the two rails that connect the left and right seat rails together. To do this you will need a flat head screwdriver. Each front rail has two guide pins with lock rings that hold them to the seat. Relieve pressure on the guide pins and pop them out with a hammer. For the rear rails, you can simply twist them out from the seat brackets. Once you have removed the rails you can proceed to the next step.
Step 5:
Now you will begin installing the spacers into the Recaro adapter rails. In your kit, you will see two different size spacers. The smaller size spacers go on the front of the rail and mount to the front of the seat.
