E28 44MM REAR TRAILING ARM BUSHINGS - K0123
The rear pitman arm was installed on the later e28 chassis models to eliminate lateral movement in the rear end during cornering and has been described as a “late fix” meaning it was a solution to a already existing problem late into production. Because the OEM rubber trailing arm bushings were designed with comfort in mind rather than performance, the addition of a rear pitman arm was necessary although it adversely affected suspension articulation and required frequent maintenance. Garagistic’s dense bushing materials and design solve this problem by eliminating the play in the rear trailing arms thus negating the need for a rear pitman arm and restoring the precise and predictable handling characteristics you expect from your BMW.
Symptoms
Rear trailing arm binding
Cause
If rear pitman is not removed it will cause binding issues and damage the poly bushings due to the pitman arm causing a side to side movement when the trailing arms travel up and down
Resolution
Unbolt and remove the pitman arm
